Erin Downing was employed with the County of Chester for over 14 years, first as a Staff Attorney with Domestic Relations, and then as a Family Court Hearing Officer where she adjudicated complex support litigation matters, bringing many to an amicable resolution and presiding over trials in those that could not be settled. Erin developed a reputation as a fair-minded and thoughtful decision-maker ensuring she considered each party’s position and concerns.
During her time with the County, she also served as a Board member with the Domestic Relations Association of Pennsylvania (DRAP), sitting as the chair of DRAP’s Supreme Court Rules Committee from 2018 through 2021, addressing policy and administrative changes to the Commonwealth’s system for the establishment and enforcement of child support orders. As the chair of the Rules Committee, she set the agenda for the committee’s review of potential legislation impacting child support by providing feedback directly to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Rules Committee. During this time, she was a frequent speaker at the state and local level regarding support law addressing the impact of proposed new rules. In addition, Erin has been a member of Chester County Domestic Relations Rules Committee.
In 2021 Erin resigned her position as a Chester County Hearing officer to join Voit Family Law where she represented individuals in all aspects of family law, including custody, divorce, equitable distribution, alimony and protection from abuse. Currently, she is employed as a Hearing Officer with Montgomery County Domestic Relations and provides private alternative dispute resolution services as a mediator and arbitrator. Erin combines her many years of experience as a neutral with her prior role as a family lawyer to assist parties in bringing an efficient resolution to their current outstanding issues as a mediator and arbitrator.
